COVID-19 UPDATE

April 24, 2020

Exactly 30 days ago a State of Emergency was declared in the City due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Earlier today I issued an extension of this State of Emergency for another 30 days, through May 24.

The declaration is being issued for two reasons. First, unfortunately, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the City, as well as in St. Lawrence County, is still increasing. All of us, therefore, still need to keep in place all the precautions issued by New York State and by our County Public Health Department.

The second reason for the extension is more bureaucratic in nature – the extension keeps the City aligned to receive any federal aid related to costs incurred that are tied directly to the pandemic. City staff are always searching for grants and aid so this is consistent with our endeavors.

As with the last declaration, there are no special orders being issued with this extension of the declaration. We all just want everyone to remain safe by following the basic steps mentioned in yesterday’s Update. So please keep wearing your masks, washing your hands and adhering to all the other advice.

The text of the Extended State of Emergency can be found by clicking here.

Be hopeful, stay safe, stay healthy and stay together yet six feet apart. “Take 5 for New York” by calling someone and chatting for five minutes. To access the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department’s information please go to the County’s website at www.stlawco.org . In addition, here are links to several other sources of COVID-19 information that you may find useful.
