COVID-19 UPDATE
April 20, 2020
Some interesting developments happened over the weekend regarding “virtual” services. It is now possible in New York to get married virtually!
Executive Order No. 202.20, issued by Governor Cuomo on Saturday, waives the 60-day expiration on marriage licenses under specific circumstances, and also permits town and city clerks to conduct virtual wedding ceremonies. There are still forms of identification that must be presented to the clerk and other information that has to be authenticated, but it is now possible to say “I do” in the audio-visual presence of the clerk.
For anyone interested in this no-frills type of ceremony, your best is to go to the Governor’s website and get a copy of Executive Order 202.20, or call our City Clerk’s Office at 315-393-3540 to get the details. Anyone who has been procrastinating on popping the question is now truly out of excuses!
On a more somber note, we learned Friday evening that the Ogdensburg Rabies Clinic scheduled for May 13 is now cancelled. County Public Health officials made the right call on this, but it is a service that many people, and their pets, appreciate and we all hope it can be rescheduled to a later date.
Be hopeful, stay safe, stay healthy and stay together yet six feet apart. “Take 5 for New York” by calling someone and chatting for five minutes.
