COVID-19 UPDATE
April 17, 2020
At 8 p.m. today the Governor’s Executive Order regarding face coverings goes into effect. This order requires that face coverings be worn in public at all times when social distancing is not possible. Here is the wording of the order:
“Effective as 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2020 any individual who is over age two and able to medically tolerate a face-covering shall be required to cover their nose and mouth with a mask or cloth face-covering when in a public place and unable to maintain, or when not maintaining, social distance.”
A covering can be a scarf or a cloth face mask. It does not need to be, nor should it be, the type of mask medical and emergency response personnel wear.
In order to make it easier for people like me, who are not handy with crafts and sewing, the Centers for Disease Control has issued guidance on how to make and how to wear face masks. The guidance can be accessed by clicking here. In addition, the CDC’s website has a YouTube link demonstrating how to make masks in case visual instructions are easier to follow.
We all need to do our best to comply with the face covering order. Just as we don’t want someone else to infect us, we don’t want inadvertently to infect someone else because we didn’t know until later that we were carriers. We are all in this together.
Be hopeful, stay safe, stay healthy and stay together yet six feet apart. “Take 5 for New York” by calling someone and chatting for five minutes.
