The City of Ogdensburg will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on September 15, 2011, at 11 a.m. for the Lake Street Bridge Demolition, Replacement, and Utility Improvement project. The ceremony will be held on the west side of the Lake Street Bridge in the Marina District.
This project consists of the construction of a new pedestrian bridge across the Oswegatchie River and the demolition of the existing Lake Street Bridge. A new water main and an upsized sanitary force main will be installed on the new pedestrian bridge to replace the utilities on the existing bridge. In addition, a new 16” water main will be constructed under the Oswegatchie from Spruce Street to Gilbert Street. All of this work is important to the potential redevelopment of the Former Shade Roller and Diamond International waterfront properties.
Bids for this construction work were solicited and on August 8, 2011, the Ogdensburg City Council awarded the construction contract to Tuscarora Construction Company, Inc., Pulaski, NY.
This construction project is primarily funded by a $2.5 million grant from the New York State Regional Economic Development (NYS RED) Program and partial funding is provided through the Empire State Development Corporation Restore NY.
