Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center

St. Lawrence County Community Development Program (CDP) operates Neighborhood Centers throughout St Lawrence County. The centers are staffed by a Director and provide services to low-income families with the assistance of community volunteers.

Each center has a food pantry and assists with food and other emergencies such as utilities, fuel and shelter. The Directors work with families in the area of family development, budgeting, education and job search. The centers operate with funds from the county, United Way and private donations.

The Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center depends primarily on the generosity of others to assist families in need. The Center welcomes donations of food, personal items and money. The Center provides the following services:

Emergency Food Packages

Provides a 5-day supply of food for families and individuals facing an emergency. Income eligibility is required.

Monthly Surplus Food

TEFAP - The Emergency Food Assistance Program provides a 3-day supply of food for those that qualify. The food varies and can be picked up any time during the month. Delivery to Centennial, Riverview and Parkview Towers is done once a month.

Personal Care Items

The Center stocks the following items through donations for emergencies: shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, soap, diapers, baby food, toothpaste and deodorant. These are provided on an as needed basis.

Emergency Funds

The Center administers the Care & Share Program for the elderly and disabled for fuel and lights. When funding is available, the Center is also able to help with rent and utilities assistance.

Family Development Program

The Center provides assistance with short- and long-term goal setting, budgeting, and working toward self sufficiency. This is done on a case-by-case basis.

Information & Referrals

The Center works closely with various agencies within the County to coordinate services and avoid duplication of programs. Information and phone numbers are given out regarding services and agencies available to help with whatever need is being addressed.
