[ARCHIVED] Lake Street Pedestrian Bridge Opening

The City of Ogdensburg will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on October 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. for the grand opening of the Lake Street Pedestrian Bridge. The ceremony will be held on the west side of the Lake Street Bridge in the Marina District.

This project began in September, 2011 and consisted of the construction of a new pedestrian bridge across the Oswegatchie River and the demolition of the existing Lake Street Bridge. A new water main and an upsized sanitary force main were installed on the new pedestrian bridge to replace the utilities on the existing bridge. In addition, a new 16” water main was constructed under the Oswegatchie from Spruce Street to Gilbert Street. All of this work is important to the potential redevelopment of the Former Shade Roller and Diamond International waterfront properties.

This construction work was performed by Tuscarora Construction Company, Inc., Pulaski, NY.

This construction project was primarily funded by a $2.5 million grant from the New York State Regional Economic Development (NYS RED) Program and partial funding was provided through the Empire State Development Corporation Restore NY.

Wayne Ladouceur of VIP Films will be attending to film the opening for a documentary and welcomes the public’s comments of their memories of the original Lake Street Bridge.
